Sruli is a full-fledged member of the why-what-why-where-why-who-why-two year olds, as Shev can attest to. We were out walking, and he was asking me what the man was doing. I did not see the man he was referring to, so he repeated himself again (and again) "what the man is doing?". "The man" looked up and told Sruli he was changing a gear in an engine, and Sruli asked if the gear was stinky. (Which led to the rest of the walk convo of why was he changing the gear...)

Rosh Hashannah

This is probably an easy question but I cant think of an answer

Why is Rosh Hashannah consider part of the 10 days of repentance? We are not allowed to say vidui- We dont say Al chet- We dont say Ashamu etc. But according to the Rambam there is no Teshuvah without Vidui. What makes my question even odder is that the main Mitzvah of rosh hashanah is blowing the shofar which is to awaken us to do teshuvah- but we cant do teshvah without vidui ?
A conumdrum .
I will offer up a large SLURPY to anyone who can satisfy me with an answer.

the basement wall

i , with help of jeff lazar, am building a wall in the basement to make into a bedroom for our out of town guests when they come to visit. (really jeff is making the wall and i am handiing him the tools) but now we got to the hard part, the frame is done and now i need to put up the dry wall. the problem is jeff doesn't do drywall and when i asked someone if i could do it they laughed at the thought. so someone else suggested "finished " drywall. i thought that was a great idea so i bought 6 panels for the wall. i bring it home and now it doesnt make any sense how to put it up. i am very confused, please help

I just came back from the kollel and am bothered by the following question. If anyone can help, i would appreciate it
It says in BABA KAMMA if one person dug a pit 10 tephachim deep, a second person added to it to 20 tephachim deep and then a third person came and dug it to 30 tephachim deep. Now an unlucky ox happens to fall into the pit- ALL 3 DIGGERS ARE OBLIGATED TO PAY DAMAGES. Why- I understand the 1 st guy is responsible- he dug a dangerous pit in a public domain, the 3 rd guy could be responsible because the ox hit the bottom of the pit where the actual damage occurred. Why is the middle guy responsible ?? Isnt it like a person falling off a building and just before he hits the ground, someone shoots him. He isnt guilty- he killed a dead person. The second guy didnt cause any damage // Sometimes the things that bother me are ODD.

Visiting the cemetery

A friend of mine was in Israel over the past few days for the Yarzheit of his father, the plan was that we'd meet up at the cemetery so he can daven mincha and do Kaddish next to the grave.

I got there a few minutes and early,and he was running a few minutes late, so I had about 30 or 40 minutes where I was just chilling at the cemetery, I decided to visit Paul Kohn, since he was at the same place, but I had no idea what one does at while hanging out by a grave. Luckily I have a tehillim app, so I said random tehillim, but I didn't know if there are specific ones to say, or random ones work. Then I thought about Paul for a minute, and I was done.

After that I just sat around on a bench for the next half hour waiting for my friend to show up wondering if there is anything else that I should do.

i saw a crazy lady today who was telling me she went to visit her ex husband who is all demented and lying around with his mouth half open and hes 90 (she is vibrant and spunky and (in a wheelchair) only 81. so she said she visitied himand made fun of fun and reminisced with him about the time she shot in the back three times. " i told him remeber i bust a cap in you"

Car keys

After doing most of the dishes on Motzei Shabbat, it was time to go play ball, I went to get the keys from their usual spot an dboth sets were missing. I asked Nat where hers were and she said if they werem't on the door, they should be in her purse. They weren't. I started to stress, and then I realized that my keys were in my backpack, I grabbed them, ran out to the car and went to enter my car security code.

The buttons didn't light up or beep, which was weird, so I went to put my keys in the ignition and see if it would start just because I hit the correct buttons. That when I discovered there were already keys in the ignition, and they security code wasn't lighting up because my battery is dead.

I can't remember if I had to turn the keys to the off position when I took out the keys, but I have to assume that they we turned a half click, and that's what drained my battery. I wish I had a good excuse, like I had to run out of the car and do something urgent. But I don't, I took the kids out on Friday for a few minutes, and when we came home, I somehow got out of the car and didn't turn it off.

we are going camping with the parents to silver lake sand dunes. its on lake michigan. we are leaving today and will be back thursday. when i asked the kids what kind of things we needed to bring eith us camping the four things that were mentioned were marshmallows, chocolate, graham crackers and hot dogs. so it looks like they have all the necessities planned out. we havent ever gone camping with a kid as young as yehuda so im sure it will be a challenge as well.

I was lying on my air mattress staring up through the mesh ceiling, and I saw one lone star looking down on me. I had the strangest thought, if I woke and a laser had cut everything in half, I would know exactly what happened, that star was a really a really high laser beam. Then I noticed that if I stared at the star for a few seconds I would get double vision, and see two stars, which looked like angry eyes glaring down at me.

We have a new home

As we approach our third year in Israel we have found our 3rd home, each time it gets a little bigger so that's nice. It's very close to where we currently live, and even closer to the shul that we like. I'll post pictures when we actually move in. We get the keys on July 1st and we hand in our old keys on July 7th. So the next few weeks will be pretty hectic as we attempt to pack up and move AGAIN.
We hope that this is the last time we move for a long time.

Finally found hotel w 2 open rooms not adjoining . I say kids in 1 and Devo and I in the other. She says we split up with the kids . What'd you think?

Fry is in two concerts in the next few weeks:

The first one is this coming Monday and is at an outdoor amphi on the beach in Netanya and is free of charge. It's a Kenes Makhelot, with all of the choir leader's choirs performing. Fry is scheduled to solo. It's Monday, June 13, at 7:30. If you are coming please let us know so we can save you seats.

The second concert is in Yerushalayim at the amphi at Har Hatzofim, on Sunday, July 17. We will find out more details about this one in the next couple of weeks.

lag b'omer. (this is the day we shave in america during sefirah) it started with a phone call from my nephew who was walking home from his medura at 5:00am . he knows he can always call his uncle yaakov at any time! we were just sitting down to havdala and he was abloe to join us in this special event as we ebbed shabbos away together. in the morning we went to kensington with dad. we got to see rosco the clown! one of red headed children who will remain nameless asked if he was a real clown or just a person dressed up like a clown. we then saw a turtle and i asked said shild if she thought it was a real turtle or something else dressed up like a turtle. the lady holding the turtle then told her it was really a racoon in a turtle shell. we also got to see blue heron's in their nests, they are big birds in big nests and then zayde toopk yael and shira for a bike ride and devo and chanalana and ahron and yehuda and myself went to a park in kensington. we had a great time. then we had a bbq with dee and harry and dad. good times good food.

problem - teacher is walking around with a rather large sticker on the back of her shirt - it says 18months

class 1 decides not to say anything cuz maybe it will just fall off

class 2 decides it would be chutzpadik to talk to a teacher about her clothes and her clothing problems

class 3 decides that they can pretend they dont see it - and whisper about it quietly

girls in the hallways and lunchroom and gym decide that if the teacher is still wearing it at this point of the day - she wants to make a fashion statement

class 4 - halfway through last period, girl with no tact yells - why is that sticker on your back, is the shirt from target?

ten minutes before school ends I subtly yank a huge white sticker off of the back of my black shirt

yup thats right i spent a few minutes cleaning poop from my shoe tonight. no i didnt step in dog poop on the way into the house and i didnt accidentally step in the kitty litter box. i was next to a pts bed trying to check his eyes and stepped in HIS poop! when i tried to clean it off i asked the caregoiver for wipes . i was told we dont have any heres paper towel . i said you clean him with that??? you dont have anything wet? well sometimes i wet it . no wonder these people get sores all over the place! can you imagine being wiped with paper towel!?!?! i like my charmin even better now. but eeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwww i stepped in human excrement i did put gloves on to clean it off . devo always likes me to wear gloves when im working so now i did. this was by far the grossest thing. although once i knelt in a wet spot on the carpet, can only imagine what that was . and then there was the guy who was eating while i checked his eyes and he coughed on me while i was looking in his eye. that was pretty gross too. somebody today had a handgun on his table, i asked if it was loaded he told me it was just a lighter uh huh .

we had dvirah who made good food and other peple aleso made food, but we diodnt have any gramman dso it wasnt as good as your s, but dorah got to talk to yo0u guys todaya nd i dint so that was nic for her. she really enjoyed it. we had people over for the seuda that we didnt ereally talk to until the end and i think they had fun anyway , also i made a mixed drink for the ladiws, it was ornage juice and lemonade and vodka. i thin they liike d it a lot. but they dnt think there was enough vidka in ti, iknow for necxt year to add more vodka. but i dont know if ill have anymore then because im stillusing the one sba gave me oine year it was a liter . the kids alld resssed up ike colors and so did we. we were the tblecloth famly we were really cool for wearing tablecloths, we had all dofferent colors, yael was opink and shira was blue and chanalana was red (go figure) and ahron was yellow, devo was purple and yaakov was green . he was a really cool green he had a hat and a jacket and everything, the tablecloth didnt really work for him .

yael had a piano recital this evening in the old fols home near the jcc. it was very cute., she did a great job. we are so proud of her, she even played a duet with her teacher.
shira started having a homework helper come to the house every night so we dont have to get frustrated every night doing her homnework with her. we are so proud of her because she is doing great in school
chanalana is now callling herself chana Elana. it is very sad to me and we still call her chanalana. we are very proud of her for trying to be her own dog but we will persevere i named her chanalana and thats what we'll call her!
ahron has turned into a very annoying little boy, he is very boy. he likes to say bad words like poop and cocky during dinner and then laugh about it. we are very proud of him for learning new things in school
yehudah has a cough but hasnt made us take him to hospital . we are very proud of him for that also he has 2 teeth on the bottom, that is a very big milestone for our kids as they usually like to wait much longer to grow teeth. one of our kids waited until 18 months before pushing those bad boys out (then she fell down the steps and knocked one out)

I asked Naftali what he would like to do for his birthday. He chose a fun activity with his family instead of a party in school. So we decided we would go to the monkey jungle in Yodfat. Nice place, get to feed the monkeys. Well Naftali requested if we could invite his Uncle Yaakov and family, so Yaak I'm extending the invitation. mental math

my daughters are coming home with worksheet say mental math on top and i said math is so mental, and they looked at me blankly.
they didnt know that mental meant crazy so then we discussed other words that we used ALL THE TIME that are out of circulation. STUPID and INDIANS. we disussed how indians were the bad guys but when they became native americans they wewre allowed to gamble.
in other news yehuda is hopefully feeling better very soon, and so am i. i didnt work these last 2 days because i was worried i would get pt sick and we would not have any follow up appointment for the next year hope we are all healthy by the end of the week so we can welcome the jerusalem horwitz with open arms

My run-in with the law

The other day, I had just picked up Jonah from his soccer chug, I was getting in the car when David called. We were, as usual. sharing some deep important philosophical insights, and I headed home. A minute or two later I noticed a motorcycle had pulled up beside me and was pointing to me to pull over. I assumed that he needed some directions, so I slowed down and started rolling down my window when I noticed it was a police officer. I silently cursed to myself and quickly ended my discussion with David and tossed the phone on the passenger seat.

The cop came over to me and I nonchalantly gave him a "Mah Nishamah" (whats up) and gave him my license. He asked for my registration, and I had no idea what it looked like, so I gave him a stack of papers and told him this was my first time getting pulled over. I attempted to do this in Hebrew, and he tried to speak a little English. At some point I had explained I was "B'lachatz" (stressed) and that's why I didn't think to turn on my Diborit (loudspeaker) , which I have installed. He showed me which paper was my registration, but pointed out that we were a month and half late for getting our car tested.

I tried explaining that we were in the process of getting it done, we went once, but had to get something fixed so it will pass the test. Then he asked me if I knew that you couldn't drive while talking on the phone, I thought he had asked if I knew how much teh ticket was for driving while talking on the phone and said he no. He looked surprised and said really, then I realized my mistake and said, Oh, I know you can't drive and talk on the phone, I thought you asked if I knew how much the ticket was, and that I don't know.

He told me it's a 1,000 NIS fine, then he gave me my license and all the papers, told me to have a good day, and left. Not only did he not give me a ticket, he didn't even give me an official warning. But the message was clear, and I didn't call David back until I was back at home.

Sarra is making Chocolate Milk, but it's sure how to funnel the cocoa powder into the OJ carton, where she poured the milk

Shlomo is getting Batchy from the Bus Station, I wonder if they'll get home before we eat and leave.

The Ziti and veggies are on the table.

When Nat asked what was for dinner, Sarra said Baked Ziti and Salads, but Nat heard Baked Ziti and Salmon. When I told Sarra that there was Salmon for dinner she was confused.

BBQ TIME

i went to home depot to buy folding chairs but instead i bought a grill. they had some from last year on sale for $50 off so the 199 one was only 149. so i brought it to the checkout people and told her it was dirty and dusty and i would like 10% off which she agreed to. i had a helper guy bring it to my car and as he was puushing it to my car the side burner inside piece fell off. so we went back inside couldnt fiugure out how to attach it, there were 2 other ones in the back that each had a problem which is why i picked this one. so ti offered them that i would take a new one in the box form this years model at the same price i had just paid. they agreed !! woohoo!
now i have to dig a path to get the grill in the backyard and then a path from the backdoor to the grill. oh yeah the folding chairs werent any good so i didnt get them

snow and cold

just wanted to give you an idea of how deep the snow is!!! most of the pictures were taken in the early morning before the sun came up!! And whats a snowy picture of home without the Schram's house and a piece of the Last house, as well!!!! That way I can take the pictures inside!!

we went sledding today with the older 4 and sent yehuda to be with his bubbie and zaydie. we had a great time and we were the onl ones there. ususlly there are the dumb kids who make ramps at the bottom and end up killing someiine or there is the other dumb kid who walks right up the middle and gets smacked by my kid coming down in the sled. but today it was just us!

Nearly ran out of gas

I was meeting Zip in Chasmonaem yesterday after work, I noticed that my gas tank was basically empty, so I stopped at the first gas station that I saw and they told me that they don't accept foreign credit cards. So i drove on, I got on the Ayaalon in Tel Aviv, my tank was down to two bars, I got off the highway twice and drove around and couldn't find a gas station. I got back on the highway, now it was highway 1, at this point my final bar was blinking. I came up to an exit towards Rishon Ltzion, I got off, and drove for a while, and didn't see any gas stations. I had a feeling that I couldn't turn around and get back on the highway without running out of gas, my best bet was to continue. At a red light I asked someone if he knew where the next gas station was and he said he was pretty sure that it was 2 KM ahead of us, I hoped that I would it. Thankfully he was right I made it it to the gas station, I coasted part of teh time, went into neutral at all red lights, but I made it.
The question is, what would I have done had a I run out gas? Has that happened to any of you here? I did it once in Southfield but I was still on Fairfax when it happened, so it wasn't a big deal.

WINTER BREAK

we are heading down to savannah, GA tomorro morning for the week. we are goping down there via ohio, kentucky, tennessee, georgia and coming home S carolina, N carolina, virginia, WVA and ohio again. there is a water park (indoors) oin tennessee that we are stopping at on the way there and we are stopping in charleton on the way back

its 9:30 am and yehuda has done almost everthing he does already and its still very early . he woke up and sat in his highchair until he got a bottle, while taking a break from from eating he went under the mat with the toys hanging down from it, after a few minutes of that he went into his excersaucer, after about 10 minutes of that he finished his bottle and had his diaper changed. the only thing left to do today is to sit in the swing. i hope he forgot about all the fun he already had so we can repeat it throught the day ad he wont get bored. ( he seems to feeling much better.)

the other night we were eating dinner and my eldest son was burping . when we glared at him for this uncouth behavior he just looked at us. we said what are you supposed to say and he said" im saying excuse me in my head ,over and over and over again". he kept on burping and saying excuse me in his head.
