  • We were at the Kotel during the "transition" from Sad day to Happy. We were right in front of some navy soldiers who were doing a little "Tekes" I guess (ceremony?). They did their whole Amod Dom, Amod Noach, Neshek, and were all serious looking, they raised the flag from half mast to full mast and then turned off the huge flame for Yom Hazikaron. And then I can't remember if they sang something or not but then they all got happy and said Chag Sameach and were giving each other hugs. Anyway, that was just a random story I thought I would share with you Yaak.

  • The proximity of Yom HaZikaron & Yom Ha'Atzmaut is an ongoing debate in Israel. Originally the fallen were actually commemorated on YA itself, not the day before.
I think David's speech at the Brit yesterday illustrated why they are connected - we remember that YA is only possible because of those we remember on YZ.

  • As Simmy said today, we're a bipolar little country. We have ups and downs like this all the time. It's not exclusive to the beginning of Iyar.
