Is there any Halachic problem with me giving a standing order to buy or sell a stock on an American stock exchange if it reaches a certain price- the order may be filled when it's Friday night here?
I was in the kollel and asked Rabbi Irons the question. He thought it was very complex. After thinking about for some time he said that I a person was involved in the buying of the stock, it was probably issur, but if it was automatic computer generated with no human in put- it was probably muter. I was surprised by how complicated he thought the question was. Shuli Are you buying stocks?? DAD
Went to a wedding last night and sat next to Rabbi Irons . I again asked him about buying stocks on shabbat- He said no problem regarding a kinyan because you did nothing to acquire the stock. he compared it to an old uncle who died on shabbat and you are the only heir. so you acquired his estate on shabbat- no problem DAD
David, it sounds like you want someone to tell you the answer is no, so I'll do it. No you can't do it, now are you happy? Dad, I see you're moving in the holy people world, getting put at the Rabbi's table, good for you

I would think there's no problem if it's not Shabbat for the trader.

The trader is an automatic process. I dont think that should factor in.
