succos in detroit
for all of those living in the holy land of israel i just wanted to let you know that here in detroit it is cold. scrape the frost of your shlock cold. nose dripping in the hot cocoa cold. even succos- sweater cold. now i am not complaining because firt of all i have no idea what the weather is like where any of you are living, but i am merely aying the schar mitzvah people get for sitting in the cold has got to be greater than those sitting in the not as cold. gut moed

to be silent or not to be silent- that is the bracha
O K this is the whole story. What is a bracha- It is a tephilla between a person and Hashem. The tephilla is that Hashem should open the "pipeline" between heaven and the recipient of the bracha wider so that more of what ever is needed is provided. It has nothing to do with the recipient. Therefore when I make a bracha , ( just like shoma esra) I do it quietly. Hashem hears it!!. Mom went and called the Rabbi- Should you make a Bracha out loud so that the recipient can say Amen? The rabbi said YES. So therefore- everyone who got a bracha after the rabbi poskimed got an out-loud bracha and those who got the bracha before the Rabbi poskimed got a quiet bracha. I still think that i'm right

Ulpan Dilemma
Nat and I started Ulpan tonight, so much fun. but here's the issue. It's from 5:30 -8:45 Sunday Monday Wednesday and Thursday. This makes it pretty impossible for both Nat and me to go to Ulpan, it would cost us a lot in babysitting fees, and we would probably miss our kids.
Avi, our Ariel guru, wants to set up a chug from 5:30 -7:00 for the kids and then one of us would stay the whole time and one of us would go home with the kids. I have a feeling this won't really work to well.
Another thought we had was rotating days and we take nots and share with the other ion their off day.Personally, I was never a big fan of sitting in a class room and 5-7 months of this will be tough for me to handle, plus when I get a job, it will probably be difficult/impossible to make it to ulpan.
